Thursday 9th August
Three separate Skype conversations this morning with Anne in
Devonport, Christine in Nelson, Jane, Robyn, Sue and Mitchell in Owairaka on
yet another. So great just to have a chat with folks at home.
Beautiful still sunny day, 26 degrees. Took 328 bus to Golders Green, 210 to Spaniards Rd to
Kenwood House right at the top of Hampstead Heath, beautiful house, formerly
home of the Guinness family, currently
undergoing major renovations until mid 2013 but grounds, cafĂ© and garden shop are open. Had nice talk with lady with grandson in push chair and 82 yr old on electric bike, both locals who come here every day, then walked down through the Heath to down to the Ladies Pool, a women only swimming pond amid the trees and with grassy bank to lie on, entry fee £2.
Another place where we thought there might be a few people but 100 plus women both swimming in the pond and sunbathing on the grass, very pleasant place to spend an afternoon.
Walked up to Parliament Hill, Bit of blackberry picking on the way, Lynds had conversation with man with papillon dog who comes to Heath every day, had a nap on grass in late afternoon sun, tried out new binoculars which are great-can see right across to Olympic Park, walked down Parliament Hill St and outside Royal Free Hospital caught C11 bus again almost to our doorstep.
Another memorable day
