Friday 27th July
Up at 6 am and out of house by 7 am to get tube to Westminster for the historic
bell ringing of Big Ben, which was rung 40 times manually at 8.12 am along with
many many other bells right across UK. Last
time Big ben was rung like this was in 1952 when King George died.
Whilst we were waiting outside Westminster tube station acoss
road form Big Ben I was interviewed by a
Japanese reporter ( nice man, in London to report on people and general London events,
not actual Olympics) and Lyndsay was interviewed by an Estonian TV crew.
We then walked to St Pancras, which took about an hour,
sometimes through relatively empty streets as Olympic lanes now in action so
only official 2012 vehicles, buses and taxis moving plus hundreds of cycle commuters enjoying the lack of traffic.
Then had a farewell brunch with Caro and Emily in the Irish
pub next to the YHA. They were heading to Heathrow that afternoon to fly back
home to NZ.
After leaving them we headed for Oxford street and did a
cruise through most of the large department stores for a couple of hours before
heading home on the 139 bus.
