Friday 10th August
Fine sunny calm day again, 26 degrees.Took overland train to Richmond about 10 am and went to bike hire place in subway at train station and hired 2 bikes for 4 hours.
Left there about 11am and went north east along the river
path towards Kew. Good ride for both of us for about an hour in beautiful
surroundings, river on left and Old Deer Park on right.
Had lunch on Kew Common under trees watching cricketers
practice in the nets and then rode back to Richmond and stopped at “The White Cross” pub, sat inside
in cool bar and had Guinness and Lime and Soda as rewards for our mornings
exertions.
Lynds headed back to Richmond town after this and had haircut and I headed upstream for another ½ hour, as
far as Teddington Lock and then ½ hr back
to Richmond. Much busier track and rougher than the route down to Kew but
great ride though my left knee wasa bit sore afterwards, nothing that a 100mg
of Naprosyn Slow release couldn’t deal with overnight. First time I had been on
bike in 3 months ( last Sundays attempt on a Boris bike really didn’t count)
and it felt really great.
Home to wash all the clothes we had worn today, eat great
dinner and slump in front of Olympic
athletics TV. Slept very well.
