Monday 13th August
Off on 139 bus as far as Waterloo Bridge by 11 am to go to
Courtald Gallery in Somerset House which has free entry on Mondays from 10am
-4pm. It’s a very nice smaller gallery with great collection of Impressionist
painters and one where you can get quite close to the paintings and see the
detail of the brushstrokes.
After that just for something different we went to Rolling
Stones 50th Anniversary Photo
Exhibition right next door. Quite fascinating, Ronnie Wood now looks just like
his father did 50 years ago !!
Lot of activity in the courtyard as well as workmen were
dismantling the whole Casa Brazil area, promoting the 2016 games in Rio. We
hadn’t been over that area of the city since before the Olympics started so didn’t
even realise it was there.
Usual sandwich lunch on the outside area above the
Embankment, then walked back as far as Piccadilly where I managed (finally) to
buy a lightweight long sleeved top to
replace the one lost at Cholderton. Huge sale going on so got this one for £8
and it’s the same colour, sort of turquoise, from same brand (Karrimor) as my
new parka, so now I will be mistaken for a pommie tourist
When we were having lunch Lyndsay checked her Facebook page
and discovered that Valerie Adams had been promoted to Gold medal after
Ostupchuch had been disqualified from shot put. Very pleased as we had been
there in the Stadium that night.
More Facebook news –old friend Bob Trett whom we hadn’t seen
for 15years was just leaving Melbourne en route to London so we made contact
and made time to meet here.
