Friday 3rd August
Household chores done
and then Lynds went off to David Mellor London shop in Sloane St to buy
more knives for us and Kim and Janet, to Hatton Garden to pick up restrung
pearls and discovered a small weekday market there, in Leather Lane that we will return to sometime. She also
discovered the Thameslink train service which bought her back from Farrington
station to West Hampstead in 8 minutes!!
I discovered that I could get the live coverage of Olympics
on my little iPod touch so sat here working on the Netbook on blog and
watched New Zealanders win 2 Gold
medals in the rowing finals in the afternoon. So in fact we could watching
4 different events on streaming video on different devices.
Later in the afternoon we caught the Overground Train to
Richmond, which was very busy tho no Olympic events anywhere near there that day,
In Richmond we met my HGHS school friend Shane Dryden at the station and spent about 3 hours walking along the Thames and on up Richmond Hill.
Had a lovely moment as we were walking up the hill when a man on a bicycle stopped to ask us if we knew where a pub called “The Red Cow”was. With a flourish, the white haired OAP Lynds, whipped out her iPad and in less than a minute had found it on Google maps and he was on his way again
We sat drinking wine and eating nibbles ( which Shane had in her backpack) on a park bench and talking and laughing +++.
In Kiwi fashion we did a bit of rearranging the park furniture, including the bench with the words “Reasons to be cheerful”which we thought most appropriate.
Then at nearly sunset retraced our steps down the hill, doing a bit of hunter gathering on blackberry berry bushes, and along riverbank and across the park to station and home after a lovely afternoon.
