Thursday 2nd August
Our second day at Wimbledon, just with ground pass for the day which gave us entry to the grounds and to any games on outer courts.
Took train right to Wimbledon station today and then free shuttle bus down to venue itself to gate 10, different gate from that we used last week.
When we got through security checks one the volunteers ( of whom there are hundreds at any venue) asked us if we knew that since we had a ground pass we would be entitled to buy any returned tickets for Number 1 or Centre Court at the kiosk up at the back of The  Hill. We hadn’t known that so headed up there straight away, and were standing at the end of a queue of about 20-30 people when a woman came right along the queue asking if anyone wanted 1 ticket to Number 1 Court, when I said “yes; how much?” she said she was giving it away, her friend had to stay at work. So Lyndsay went off into the Number 1 Court to her seat that turned out to be 6 rows from edge of court.

I then discovered that all the people currently in the queue were waiting for any Centre Court tickets to become available so went up and asked if they had any Number 1 Court tickets and they had one but had to wait for manager to come and Ok it. When he came they had chat and then he just gave it to me at no further cost. My seat was about halfway up the stand almost above Lyndsay. Pretty good deal really as we had paid £20 for the ground pass and these were £75 tickets.

So Lynds saw Serena Williams vs Caroline  Wozniaki from the closeup seat, then we swapped around and I sat there to watch Juan Martin del Potro vs Kei Nishikori.

Then just before the last game of the day  the woman who had given us the ticket originally said to me that she had to go back to work and would my friend like to use her ticket ?  Would she indeed!

So we were both sitting there for the mixed doubles match between Andy Murray and Laura Robson of Team GB and a Czech couple which was a great match with huge crowd participation with much waving of Union Jacks.

Overall a fantastic 2nd day for us at Wimbledon which will give us a whole new perspective next year when we watch the grand slam there.

And you can even sit there and watch the match you are watching online on the iPad !!
