Wednesday 5th September Santa Eufemia
Watery sunshine started the day.
Hilarious breakfast when Ursula, who was about to return to Germany, presented
Lyndsay with the remains of the cherry schnapps from last night.
Lyndsay and I went for walk down through the vineyard to the bottom of the
valley. After recent rain it was still very wet and the consistency of the soil
was such that great chunks stuck to the bottom of your shoes if you walked on
slope between rows of vines.
Afternoon siesta and book reading, bit of washing then at 4pm (after siesta
time cos everything closes then) headed off to fill tank ready for tomorrow,
get more cash out of machine (Kiwibank Loaded for Travel card is working well
here in Italy with PIN for transactions), found the panacetteria recommended by
Dagma to buy some grisini to take to Paziols.
Then visited Roddi, a village about 4 km outside Alba itself, which has an
interesting old castle currently having part of it restored. Left car and walke
dup hill to castle and great views over this area tho still a bit hazy. Each
hill in this area has a village with a castle or large church right at the top.
Also drove up the road on the opposite side of this specific valley and had
a look at the resort being built halfway up and took some photos looking back
to S’Eufemia.
Back to Sant Eufemia to beautiful evening sun on the terrace above the
vines so sat out there for our salad dinner and wine until it was too dark to
read.
New guests have arrived, yesterday Italian couple with son about 7 and
tonight Leon from Kentucky, on his first visit to Europe, arrived to spend 3
weeks helping with the grape harvest. His grandparents came from Naples.
