Friday 1st September Now 4 months since we left NZ.
Woke about 6.30 am and heard thunder in distance, got up and watched out
our window as storm moved up from south west over period of about an hour. Huge
thunder and lightning display, one great clap of thunder right over the house,
torrential rain overflowing gutters on house, water cascading down driveway
carrying newly laid gravel with it, Lele said later half was at front door,
other half in the pond !! Storm lasted about an hour. Despite that it was very
very welcome rain. The water level in the pond at the bottom of the driveway
rose about a metre.
Spent day in house, swim late afternoon then drive to very small village
called Volpaia about 7.5 km away, small sub-village of Radda on hill, 5
families, one church, one sister runs café, other sister runs restaurant. had
coffee and cake then back by circular route on unsealed road winding thru
hills.
Dinner back in our room was salad with fresh tomatoes, olives, cheese etc
followed by dessert of ricotta cheese with fresh figs, little grapes and
blackberries all gleaned from property. Fantastic fresh produce, especially the
stone fruit.
In car today in hills of Tuscany Lynds said “I think we are becoming more
Italian by the hour” ! Nearly as good as my statement to her that “Home is
where her iPad is” and “my home is where my bed is tonight”
Checking out how to change display on Kangoo dashboard from “current fuel
consumption” to ”mileage” (by actually reading the online manual) and also
discovered it does have Bluetooth, which we could have used for iPod music
instead of trudging around Verona to buy RCA cable. However know we have more
options now.
