Monday 3rd September. S’Eufemia
Well woke to rain even heavier than yesterday it didn’t stop raining today,
just became mist later in the day.
Cheerful breakfast with all 8 guests around the table and lots of talk.
Alongside the breads, meats, cheeses and jam and honey Ciara had made fresh
apple strudel for breakfast. 2 sorts of coffee, expresso and filter.
We spent the morning at the house as too wet even to go out for a walk,
some of the others headed off to Asti for the day.
I spent the morning working on the Parituhu accounts on MYOB Online which I
had set up earlier this year and which I had a problem with an entry I had made
in April which persistently would show in the GST Report. Bit of quiet thinking
and rechecking setups allowed me to find the error, very basic really, I had
set one account category up as GST Exempt. So very happy as now have all up to
date so will be able to file GST report as soon as we get home.
In the afternoon we went for walk up the road about a km with the 2 house
dogs following, which we later discovered they do with all the guests.
Then
went back and got the car and went into Alba to Lydl supermarket and bought
dinner, salad vegetables and fruit, including 1 carton of 20 beautiful
nectarines for €2.50 !! The stone fruit in Italy, especially peaches and
nectarines, are so very tasty. Store bought in NZ are tasteless by comparison.
Plus I also found the Italian equivalent of HobNob biscuits called “Gran
Cereale Classico”.
On the way back we did a detour up into hills to look for the place where
Lyndsay is going to go to a cooking lesson tomorrow, along a sealed road just
as wide as a cart track, very tricky if met someone coming down. The valleys
here are very high hills/very deep valleys terraced with vines. Not many olives
in this area and also there are forests in bottom of valleys where there will
be truffles in October-Alba is the truffle capital of Italy.
Back home for dinner salad where we were joined by the two German couples
for a very cheerful evening with red wine and then one of them produced home-made
cherry schnapps and Lyndsay became very garrulous.
