Sunday 9th September 2012 Sete to Perpignan to Paziols, France

Swim at plage near hotel-nice and calm and pleasant temperature. Quite a few people in water, some in dive gear heading further out with fishing spears. Took down boot cover and put up cargo net in back of Kangoo and repacked our gear ready for Rod and Helens luggage when we pick them up in Perpignan tonight.

Before leaving the town  we went for drive around beach area, quite a lot of new development, bit ugly and gruesome though.  Tried to get down to old town but baffled by one way streets, view from up on the  hill shows old town probably quite nice. Lots of people up hill from cruise ship moored down town.

Drove through country side for an hour or so without any GPS, just following roads on Google maps. Very pleasant and stopped at car boot sale near a small town where Lynds bought an old fashioned key and a polka dot TDF rider model.

Then onto motorway and down to Perpignan by about 5pm, found temporary park on the old station side and then took some time to locate the proper carpark.

(Note re TomTom –the voice we have selected is computer generated so it can read warnings but we suddenly realised today how bad her French pronunciation is when she kept saying the name of the town as Per Pig Nan)

Sat in square and had a beer and read “The Guardian Weekly” while waited for the train. Only discovered the new side of the station as we went to find platform where the train from Narbonne would arrive.

Then right on time at 6.36 pm the train arrived carrying with it our Devonport friends Helen and Rod Cornelius who had just travelled overnight from Philadelphia,  plane across Atlantic to Frankfurt, another plane to Toulouse, train from Toulouse to Narbonne and then Narbonne to Perpignan. So nice to see them. Then we piled into the Kangoo for the short journey to Paziols.

However due to the fact that the D117 motorway was closed (and apparently has been for some time) and our TomTom  didn’t know about it the trip took us at least 1 ½  hours and we apparently took the long way around through Tuchan, which is to north of Paziols..

Warm welcome and beautiful dinner waiting for us at “La Fontaine”  from Gay, Sally and Jackie,
