Spent morning hanging out with Michelle and Charles and getting packed up again then from 12 -3 pm  went over to the Sunnyside Park Memorial Day Picnic ( actual day was the Monday). Just like a school fair in NZ, couple of hundred parents and kids enjoying themselves, mum and dads manning BBQ’s preparing burgers and hot dogs, bouncy castle, rock climbing wall, face painting, finger nail painting ( including Charles getting his done)  all the usual activities except that an 8 year old sang the national anthem and they raised the flag to half-mast for Memorial day. We also had the opportunity to have a look at the allotment gardens they have at the side of this park.

Then at about 3 pm we said farewell to the Quinns after a lovely and memorable stay in New York and took a cab ride to JFK with a local driver ( 40 min ride for $40 including tip). Uneventful journey through security and check in to our Swiss Air flight.

We were flying Swiss Air as they are member of Star Alliance with Air NZ and fly out of New York to Zurich where we were to change to another flight on to London. Normally I don’t take much notice of partner airlines features etc but this was quite different. They were fantastic-new aircraft with only 2 seats on side aisles, smiling service, superb food served hot, real knives and forks, hot towels, good movies etc. Slightly late arriving in Zurich so didn’t get to experience features of this good airport but needed to rush to make connection and arrived in London on Sunday 27th at 4.30 pm

Relatively quick passage thru immigration, on Tube to Earls Court and short walk to YHA from Tube station. Older building in quiet side street, up one flight of stairs to bedroom but about 3 flights to get to and from kitchen and outside dining area ( yes, in London !). Then went off and explored local supermarkets and then went back had some dinner and both slept 10 hours straight.
