Friday 18th Next morning Saida dropped us at Metro station at Friendship Heights and we successfully navigated Washington Metro,  first to Pentagon station  to visit the memorial to those who died in the 9/11 attack there, both plane passengers and Pentagon staff, 184 people . It’s a  very low key but moving memorial consisting of an illuminated bench for each person with their name engraved on it arranged in rows by age-youngest 2 years to oldest in 70’s and with 85 paper bark maple trees scattered throughout. Its almost impossible to see where the damage was to the building

Then on to Arlington cemetery to visit Kennedy grave. This was where we first encountered the thousands of children, mostly teenagers, on end of school year trip to Washington, moving around like swarms of locusts !!

Then into Central Washington to East Wing of the National Art Gallery to the Miro exhibition which was very impressive, lots of information about his life especially during Spanish civil war –Lyndsay impressed by how the political informed his creativity.

The lighting installation in the moving walkway between east and west wings was spectacular.

Metro back to Friendship Heights and then successfully negotiated journey to Beech St on E6 bus.
