Saturday
6 October 2012 San Sebastian Spain to Navarrenx in France.
Up early
for us, breakfast at 8 am with Javier at hotel and on road north out of San
Sebastian by 8.45 am. Still sun rising over Pyrenees straight into my eyes making
driving a bit difficult initially as we headed east.
Temperature
when leaving San Sebastian was 22 degrees, but within 1 hour of heading inland
from coast this had dropped to 12 degrees as we climbed a bit. However by the
time we arrived in Navarrenx it was back into the low 20’s.
Easy 2
hour drive to Beau Rivage Camping Ground in Navarrenx where we have a Chalet
booked for the rest of our stay in France for €185 for whole week.
Chalet
is sort of one room, about 4m x 4m with toilet in one corner and a small kitchen at one end with sink,
fridge, hot plate and microwave, basic
set of kitchen equipment and small table. Windows and shutters on front and
back walls.
There is
a little deck about 1.5 m wide along the front which looks south so sun comes
into deck in middle of day and another table and 2 chairs out there. The deck
looks over a grove of trees beside a river just below. Sound of water rushing
over stones is very relaxing along with cicadas singing.
Showers/laundry
are up by office building by front gate. This is the last week of their season
then they close until next summer. There are tent sites and caravan /RV sites
here with about 10 occupied at the moment, lots of English people here.
In late
afternoon we went for walk around village and got as far as first bar where we
met Richard owner of campground plus Stuart and another pommie guy. Had couple
of beers and talked to them and watched a little bit of local rugby (Toulon vs
Biarritz –Jonny Wilkinson plays for one of the teams) on TV in Bar. Whole team
of young rugby players arrived at watch the TV game obviously just after they had
played. Rugby quite big in this area of France
Lamb
chops, peas, leaks and potatoes for dinner cooked on the 2 electric ring sin
cabin.
