Nice
breakfast included at hotel so all tucked in. Had tickets to Guggenheim for 10
am entry so set off about 9.30am. Tram
was waiting some time at station so Lynds went off to sort out the problem with
the ticket ( leaving the other 3 of us sitting on the tram ), turned out I had
bought the wrong one, she got taken off into back office with 3 men all worried
about how to do the €9.75 refund which they eventually worked out but by the
time she emerged the tram had left so quickly I didn’t have time to get off !!
So I got off at next stop and ran back as I had her phone and bag etc. We caught
the next tram in 15 min and arrived at Guggenheim
Museum and art gallery in time to meet Helen and Rod for our 10 am entry.
Amazing
building with a number of exhibitions but the major one at the moment is a David Hockney exhibition of his return to
landscape painting in Yorkshire and his further adoption of new technology
using an iPad app called Brushes for both initial sketching and some final
work. Absorbing and fantastic stuff
including 3 iPads mounted on a wall which showed progression of 3 works plus a
video conversation with him about these new works and techniques . There were
several works of Yosemite and grand canyon which were of particular interest to
us because of our visits to both earlier in the year.
Some
other very modernistic works and installations, some fairly wierd. Fantastic day altogether.
Later I
went for walk in old town and saw men playing pelote with flat wooden bats on a
2 sided court just off the street, slightly different to that we had seen on TV
earlier when they used the curved bats.
Dinner
again in old town, not very spectacular and started to rain and turned cold.
