Thursday 12th July Edinburgh
In the morning Caro and Emily off to the Camera Obscura, Lyndsay to back to
Art gallery and a specialised kitchen shop called “Lakeland” and I went off to
Scotland People at the Records office and a bit of a wander in a shopping mall
In the afternoon we all met up to go on a historical tour of underground Edinburgh
run by Mercat tours that was excellent, small group with no giggling teenagers,
very factual and interesting and lasted about an hour. Overview of whole
history of Edinburgh’s built environment especially the bridge across the two
valleys either side of the main ridge and the goings on in the arches
underneath.
Lyndsay had had a sore tooth for a couple of days which got worse yesterday
and receptionist at YHA gave us address of dental practice that sees non-NHS
patients, which was about ½ hr walk away, and which turned out to be a walk in
NHS Dental Clinic, part of Primary Care service. Arrived about 4.15 pm and Lyndsay
was seen by nurse but couldn’t be seen by dentist as end of day but they made
appointment for 7 pm at start of evening session. Walked back after dinner (
pasta tonight) which was quite a pleasant walk ( not raining) past the National
Museum of Scotland which occupies a whole block, Greyfriars Bobbys statue and through
old university area. Lynds seen at 7 pm, was in consulting room for an hour and
emerged having had a root canal done by a Polish dentist and all for the
princely sum of £13 as it was done under reciprocal health agreement between
UK/NZ for urgent medical treatment. We were expecting to pay what it would have
cost at a private dental practice at home and had credit card at the ready.
Thanks NHS Scotland.
Then we spent £14 at Tescos on way home
for food for next few days !!
