Saturday 30th June Larne Northern Ireland to Dunoon Scotland.

Up at 5.15 am, breakfasted and at in line at car ferry terminal by 6.15 am for 7.30 am sailing to Troon in Scotland. Security check very superficial again though I expect they film all the registration numbers, but no actual check on who is in the car, just number of people.

Comfortable seat in bar area. Group of 10 young women obviously on “Girls day out”, Pear Cider being consumed for breakfast along with their coffee. Young men in the standard garb of Polo shirt and jeans or track pants are having pints of beer for breakfast. Only very small outdoors observation deck (totally taken over by the smokers !) on this vessel which is much smaller than the ferry we went to Ireland on. Very fast trip to Troon, only 1 ½ hours.

Went into Troon by 9am and both had haircuts in a shop in street that had 3 hairdressers and 2 funeral directors.

Stopped in Largs by yacht club and had a bit of a snooze in carpark before heading for the Western ferry to Dunoon. Arrived at Katie and Willie’s about 3.30 pm after filling tank (with diesel !) and extricating cash from machine.

So nice to see them in their lovely warm house and then spent rest of afternoon/evening watching Wimbledon tennis live, with a wee trip ( about 10 km) out to the pub on Lock Eck with Willie before dinner.
