First stop was
the Glasgow Cathedral which has had a very interesting history since being
first built by St Mungo in 6th century. Ornate for Church of
Scotland but sparse by comparison with other great churches. Some rather nice
stained glass windows including a very big trades/craft guilds window with a
nice rose window at the top.

Quick walk to outskirts of the necropolis near the cathedral –some fairly
splendid memorials there.
|
Glasgow Necropolis |
Walked down and through centre of city, George Square, and then on
Glasgow’s dinky little underground to Kelvingrove Museum, another of the great free UK museums.

Glasgow Underground |
I spent most of my time there in the exhibitions about the
“Glasgow Boys” school of art and particularly some recreations of tea rooms,
designed by Charles Rennie MacIntosh and his wife.

It also has some other rather bizzare collections of items together e.g. a Spitfire hanging above a collection of stuffed African animals, a more than 100 year old elephant, giraffe etc.

Also the very beautiful original oil painting of Vita SackvilleWest by William Brand, that gracedthe cover of one biography of her.
Walked back through old University of Glasgow campus and down to McGintys Irish
pub, then to Italian restaurant and then another bar before heading home on the
last train. Lots of iPad and iPPhone talk.
