Monday 14th Tuesday 15th Wednesday 16th Maine to New York State
Evaporated milk from a tin on breakfast muesli. Yum !! On
road by 9 am Monday for long days drive through very beautiful wooded country side
right across Maine, part of New Hampshire and Vermont. Quite a few run down
houses, surrounded by derelict cars etc
and the odd Stop Obama signs. Lunch was
previous night’s leftovers from the bar and grill. Crossed lake Champlain into
New York State on car ferry and then thru to Lake Placid Summit Hotel by about 7.30 pm after 9 1/2 hrs in car. Lake
Placid was site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics and is very like
Queenstown, popular in both summer and winter. Fantastic nights sleep in huge
king size bed, best so far and woke to misty morning over the lake. Walk in
village and visit to very beautiful little church, St Eustace, where we met the
vicar and had a chat.

Tuesday morning we set off from Lake Placid through the
woods and lakes of upstate New York, some very beautiful places, Lake Saranac especially,
then on to the shores of Lake Ontario and meandered through lots of small
villages and arrived at Ingrid’s house outside Rochester about 6 pm. Her house
is on 2 ½ acres much of it well fenced so her two dogs, Brady and Beckett can
run free. Nice dinner with NZ wine and great conversations. (Ingrid and I were
the entire M.Sc class in physiology at Massey University early 1970’s-she is
now professor at Rochester)

Wednesday we had slowish start –sorted out yet another 5 kg
of stuff to send home and yet another visit to US Post office. Had a lovely long
walk through tree lined old railroad track with Ingrid and Brady (Beckett not
yet ready for this sort of outing) –rained a little bit , not enough to get wet
, just dewey.N ap and lazing about in house in afternoon and then out to restaurant
in Honeoye Falls for dinner
