Lyndsay with her niece May |
Today Saida dropped
us at Tetley Town Metro as on way to take May to ballet. Bit of a delay cos
they were working on lines. Headed to west side of National gallery with the
more classic collections-the building itself is magnificent. An exhibition we
liked was modern street photography (I Spy) from New York, reminiscent of Bill
Cunningham’s work for New York Times.

A pleasant lunch time was spent in the sculpture garden-lots
of kids and parents dangling feet in water as very hot day about 28 degrees.

Then it was off to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
Helens #1 choice and Lyndsay was a reluctant starter there but became an
instant convert as she walked in the front entrance to see John Glenn’s orbital
capsule, yes the real thing, right in front of her. Then the real Apollo 11
capsule and a moon landing module ( not a real one cos that’s still on the
moon) but one of the spares, plus you
can rub your fingers over a piece of moon rock. Plus lots of Soviet space
stuff, a V2 rocket, Lindbergs plane “The Spirit of St Louis” spy planes etc
etc. What a fantastic place-definitely needs another visit sometime and most
amazing of all is that the Smithsonian museums are free !! As also is the
Washington Zoo.

Michael got back from a visit to London that evening and we
all went out to dinner at Pain Quotidien in Bethesda. Lots of fancy European
cars and beautiful young people around that area.
