Thursday 30th August Torre di Canvalle
Early morning swim in pool, breakfast outside,

then into Radda to fruit market stall,

then walked all around village which overall looks well maintained and organised, a place for locals to shop and not totally overrun by group tours.

The church on the top of the village is an active parish church with a priest and some nuns from India, it is old but well maintained and has a simplicity and good feelings about it.

then to Coop for salad veges, cheese, bread for lunch and dinner.

Siesta then in pool again rest of afternoon and evening, mid 30s temperature again, finally finished reading Herald Tribune bought in Verona 2 days ago plus Kindle book. Lynds has an actual paperback book she is reading right now. Nice discussions with Lele about her cooking school with the Tuscan Mamas and had look around her kitchen. See www.tutti-a-tavola.com  Lele is working with the Indian nuns to provide an Indian food banquet as a fund raiser.

Lots of Italy including this area is very dry having had no significant rain for 2 months and even trees in the forest are dying. The brown leaves on the oak trees are not signifying early autumn, but that the treses are dying and you can see this right across the valleys. Also we drive past wilted grape vines thought the olive trees still seem to be holding their own.
Some of the fruit on other trees like the plum just outside our window has withered and died before ripening. There are also heaps of forest fires throughout the country at the moment. The lavender around the swimming pool is all dried up as are all Lele’s flower beds. They have a spring that provides for the house which is still running but they need to be very careful with it.

Did big clothes wash; hung out amongst the olive trees and all dry in couple of hours as almost zero humidity.
